1.From“Miracle”to Science

The2025Nobel Prize in Physics has once again stirred global curiosity.

Three American scientists—John Clarke,Michel Devoret,and John Martinis—were awarded for their discovery ofmacroscopic quantum tunnelling and energy quantisation.

Their work revealed a stunning truth:

quantum phenomena do not only occur in atoms or electrons but can manifest incircuits large enough to hold in one’s hand.

Some may exclaim,“Isn’t that like the mystical ability to‘see through walls’?”

But though both challenge our sense of reality,science and mysticism travel on very different paths.

2.The Scientific Reality of“Passing Through Walls”

Quantum tunnelling is a precisely verified physical effect.

In the microscopic world,when a particle encounters an energy barrier,classical physics says it should be stopped—

yet,because of its wave-like nature,there is a certain probability it willtunnel throughand appear on the other side.

It is not magic—it is mathematics.

Physicists can calculate this probability using Schrödinger’s equation

and harness it in technologies liketunnel diodes,quantum chips,and scanning tunnelling microscopes.

3.The Mystical Narrative of“Seeing Through Walls”

By contrast,the so-called“mind reading through walls”belongs to the realm of legend.

It claims that certain individuals can see words or images through solid walls,

yet such phenomena havenever been replicated under controlled scientific conditions.

There is no mathematical model,no energy mechanism,and no measurable signal behind it.

More likely,it is a product ofpsychological illusion,suggestion,or deliberate fabrication.

4.Symbolic Similarity,Scientific Difference

Symbolically,the resemblance is fascinating:

quantum tunnelling breaks through physical barriers,

while“seeing through walls”represents humanity’s desire to transcend mental barriers.

科学的“穿墙术”是自然界自身的智慧;

Scientific tunnelling is nature’s own intelligence;

mystical wall-reading is humanity’s poetic imagination of the unknown.

5.The Boundary Between Science and Mysticism

The core of science isverifiability.

Every phenomenon must be repeatable,mathematically describable,and logically derived.

Mysticism,however,draws its charm fromsymbolism and belief—it explains meaning,not mechanism.

但它是被写进方程的“奇迹”;

Thus,while quantum tunnelling sounds like a superpower,

it is a“miracle written in equations”;

while psychic abilities may sound romantic,they remain in the realm of faith and storytelling.

6.Epilogue:Science Needs No Supernatural Add-On

Quantum mechanics shows us that

the“incredible”in nature is not beyond reason—it isreason itself in its most wondrous form.

The boundary between science and mysticism is not a conflict of belief and doubt,

but simply this:one world can be tested,the other can only be imagined.
