北欧吃腊八粥

——在瑞典厨房里,熬一碗中国的节气

腊八这一天,按中国传统,是要煮一碗粥来吃的。不为饱腹,只为记得。

今年的腊八,我在瑞典。窗外是北欧冬天惯常的灰白,湖面结着薄冰,厨房却慢慢热了起来。我翻开柜子,发现并没有“标准答案”里的那些豆子,于是索性遵循腊八粥最原始的精神——有什么,就放什么。

于是,这一锅粥里,有八样食材,刚好八味。

大米,是粥的根基;红豆,是腊八的灵魂;黑芝麻,让颜色沉下来;花生米,带一点香脆的意外;莲子,清心,也清局;红枣,是中国节日不可少的甜;枸杞,几乎成了海外华人的标配;而最后一味,是瑞典超市里常见的——亚麻籽(Linfrön)。

这一勺亚麻籽,让这碗粥不再只是“复刻传统”,而是真正发生在北欧土地上的腊八。

腊八粥从来不是一道讲究比例和标准的料理。它更像一种年终的仪式:把一年里还留在身边的东西,把柜子里零散的粮食,一起熬成一锅温热。

粥慢慢翻滚的时候,你会发现,不同的食材开始互相让步,互相融合。就像人在异乡的生活——不再纯粹,却更真实。

这碗腊八粥,没有山珍海味,也没有“正宗不正宗”的争论。它只是提醒我:在北欧的冬天,在忙碌与复杂之间,我仍然记得中国的节气,也愿意为它,慢慢煮一锅粥。

Laba Porridge in the Nordics

—Cooking a Chinese Festival in a Swedish Kitchen

According to Chinese tradition,Laba Festival calls for a bowl of porridge.Not to fill the stomach,but to remember.

This year,I cooked Laba porridge in Sweden.Outside the window,the Nordic winter was pale and silent,the lake lightly frozen.Inside the kitchen,warmth slowly returned as the pot began to simmer.

I opened the cupboard and realized I didn’t have all the“standard”ingredients.So I followed the original spirit of Laba porridge:use what you have.

In the pot,there were exactly eight ingredients:

  • Rice,the foundation of all porridge
  • Red beans,the soul of Laba
  • Black sesame,adding depth and color
  • Peanuts,bringing a subtle crunch
  • Lotus seeds,calm and clean in flavor
  • Red dates,the sweetness of Chinese festivals
  • Goji berries,familiar companions of overseas Chinese kitchens
  • And finally,a Nordic touch:linseed(linfrön)from a Swedish supermarket
  • That spoonful of linseed transformed this porridge.It was no longer a simple recreation of tradition,but a Laba Festival truly happening on Nordic soil.

    Laba porridge has never been about strict recipes.It is more like a year-end ritual:gathering what remains,bringing scattered grains together,and turning them into warmth.

    As the porridge slowly boils,the ingredients begin to soften into each other—much like life abroad.Less pure,perhaps,but more honest.

    This bowl of Laba porridge is not about luxury or authenticity.It is simply a reminder:in the middle of a Nordic winter,amid complexity and busyness,I still remember Chinese seasons,and I am willing to slow downand cook a bowl of porridge for them.
